Finger Lakes Zero Waste Coalition
the State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process, has made a declaration of “no significant environmental impact” for the proposed gasification pilot plant, with no apparent independent analysis or input from scientific authorities. The short Environmental Assessment Form (EAF) the County submitted to the Department of Environmental Conservation, in lieu of a full environmental review, fails to address significant technical, environmental, and public health issues of this unproven technology. Among the unsubstantiated claims in the EAF is the unbelievable assertion that the proposed plant would produce no hazardous air emissions.

SMI is Seneca Meadows Landfill--it takes 6,000 tons a day of garbage from all over the Northeast, and is the largest landfill in New York State. This map was drawn before the Casella-operated 300-acre Ontario County Landfill was expanded by 49% in 2007. A DEC environmental review would have been required at 50%. The map can be found on the State DEC website, pages 30-31, click here.
